I realize that violence only begets more violence however, men by our very nature are violent creatures and some men (bullies in particular) only understand violence. Would that we lived in a world were we could survive simply by ignoring the slurs, jibes and insults. But I have always believed that it may be wrong to throw the first punch but, it is not wrong to throw the last one. DEFEND YOURSELF! DO NOT JUST LAY DOWN AND DIE!
And you know what?? While we're on the subject... While I whole-heartedly support Lady Gaga's endeavor with "It Gets Better", the truth is it does not get better. In fact it gets a hell of a lot worse sometimes. The Truth is sometimes you just have to man-up and kick a little ass. Once people realize that you're not going to take any shit from them, then and only then in most cases, will you get the respect that you want. Respect must be earned. Sometimes you can win that respect just by standing up for yourself. Sometimes however, you will literally have to fight for it. As much as that may suck, sometimes it is the only way. When I got outed in 11th grade, I caught a lot of flack and got in a lot of fights. Once I started wearing a jacket that said "Gays are bashing back!", people started getting the hint that I was not going to be a victim or a target any more and things pretty much went back to business as usual. But for the 4 months leading up to that, my life was a living hell. And It still gets rough sometimes but, I just remember that I am a man first and gay is just a small part of the man that I am and people get the picture pretty quickly. Okay, end of rant. Just needed to put that out there for all the gay kids out there getting picked on.
